This is precisely what participants in the second edition of the COTE 100 20-20-20 Competition, organized in collaboration with FSA ULaval, had to demonstrate. This unique competition in Canada introduces students to a specialized long-term investment philosophy.
The 2025 edition crowned a team that rose to the challenge with brilliance. To invest $20,000 in 20 stocks for 20 years—with no transactions allowed—they proposed a strategy based on sustainable value creation, focusing on companies demonstrating the ability to grow regardless of economic cycles.
“The caliber of analysis presented this year was outstanding,” explains Marc L’Écuyer, Senior Portfolio Manager and Partner, who participated in the selection process. ” The winning team’s report was thorough, providing sophisticated and well-researched justifications for each company selected, which was perfectly aligned with their selection criteria. This team thought outside the box to propose standout ideas.”
Congratulations to the winners of the $5,000 scholarship:
The 20-20-20 Competition is supported by a major $500,000 donation over 20 years from COTE 100, invested in a philanthropic fund for the benefit of FSA ULaval students.
Ultimately, the portfolios designed by the winning teams will have a tangible impact: in 20 years, these wise investments will provide more generous scholarships and will have built increased capital to support future generations.
